Government to create panchayat infrastructure fund

Summary: Panchayati raj minister Laxmikant Parsekar of Goa announced at the golden jubilee celebrations of the institution of panchayati raj in the state, that the government will create a special fund of 300-500 crore for panchayat infrastructure projects for planned development of villages.

9 subsidised LPG cylinders for rural poor

Summary: Andhra Pradesh government has increased the number of subsidised LPG cylinders for the rural poor from six to nine per annum. The move is meant to benefit about 40 lakh rural BPL families.

Rising incomes fuel rural spending on proteins

Summary: The study by ratings agency Crisil said that rural India is now spending more on protein products such as milk, eggs and meat due to rising income. The study shows that overall spending by Indians on protein foods has doubled to Rs 2 lakh crore in 2009-10 from 2004-05 and two-thirds of this spending came from rural households.

Rural consumers trade up more than urban

Summary: Small town consumers are spending on high value products, more than their urban counterparts due to higher aspirations and lower cost of living. India's Tier-4 town consumers moved up the value chain said a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) study.

Ensuring transparency in government’s rural schemes

Summary: In a bid to create transparency in implementation of various government schemes Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi) district administration has launched its 'e-village directory', which is perhaps first of its kind in the state. There is no need to apply for information under the RTI Act as all the information about government-run schemes and programmes related to developments in the village would be available on the web.
